Abstract: Reviews the book, Measures for Children with Developmental Disabilities: An ICF-CY Approach edited by A. Majnemer (2012). This book has undertaken the challenging task of systematically assembling measures that can be used for children with developmental disabilities, in accordance with components of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF). Such an undertaking affirms the preeminent role of the ICF in informing assessment and intervention strategies, yet belies the complexities that still exist in the careful demarcation of its components and domains. Many of these complexities were revealed in the preparation of this text. Hence there has been a need to report on the same measure in more than one domain and, because of the number of contributors to the book, some of the explanations for this can be at variance with each other. This book has been prepared as a resource for practitioners and researchers who are seeking measurement tools for children and young people with developmental disabilities, with the exception of biomedical investigations that address the integrity of organs or systems. All this aside, this text provides an excellent starting point for all practitioners who are undertaking the sometimes daunting task of identifying the best measure for their particular clinical or research purpose.
