Title: | Subperiosteal Orbital Hematoma From SVC Occlusion During Cardiac Surgery: To See or Not to See | Authors: | Avinash Patukale, A. Sullivan, T. Prakash Marathe, S. Shetty, G. Alphonso, N. Venugopal, P. |
Issue Date: | 2022 | Source: | 13, (2), 2022, p. 263-265 | Pages: | 263-265 | Journal: | World Journal for Pediatric and Congenital Heart Surgery | Abstract: | We present a case in which the superior vena cava (SVC) cannula was inadvertently clamped for a short while during cardiopulmonary bypass, completely occluding SVC drainage. This resulted in a rarely seen complication – bilateral subperiosteal orbital hematomas causing orbital compartment syndrome. Other instances of intentional SVC occlusion include during the creation of a bidirectional cavo-pulmonary shunt and for emergency control of bleeding during thoracic surgery.L20139402392021-10-18 | DOI: | 10.1177/21501351211044130 | Resources: | https://www.embase.com/search/results?subaction=viewrecord&id=L2013940239&from=exporthttp://dx.doi.org/10.1177/21501351211044130 | | Keywords: | bleeding;cardiopulmonary bypass;case report;cavopulmonary connection;clinical article;color vision;color vision defect;compartment syndrome;computer assisted tomography;depth perception;Ebstein anomaly;exophthalmos;eye;headache;heart surgery;hematoma;human;male;near infrared spectroscopy;optic nerve;orbital compartment syndrome;periosteum;petechia;pupil reflex;superior cava vein obstruction;superior rectus muscle;superior vena cava drainage;surgical drainage;thorax surgery;transcutaneous drainage;tricuspid valve;tricuspid valve regurgitation;visual disorder;visual field defect;article;adolescent;ventricular cannula (heart);blood reservoircardiopulmonary bypass cannula;bilateral subperiosteal orbital hematoma | Type: | Article |
