In a patient born with only a single ventricle, there is only one functional ventricle capable of pumping blood. The 'Fontan circulation' refers to the surgical correction when this single ventricle pumps solely into the systemic circulation and the blood returning from the body drains directly into the lungs without the assistance of ventricular pump. This presentation will briefly cover the various surgical procedures used to obtain the 'Fontan circulation' and then focus on the echocardiographic image acquisition used to best assess these patients. Like with many congenital heart patients, the echocardiographic assessment can be very different to the standardised approach used in adult echocardiography. This presentation will demonstrate the non-standard views used when scanning a Fontan patient, provide an example of an echocardiography report and importantly highlight potential complications associated with the Fontan circulation.L6165328922017-06-06 <br />en
