Abstract: Background: Epidemiological studies have shown that about 50% of the children with mental disorders still fulfil the criteria for a mental disorder in adulthood. Objectives: The symposium discusses factors influencing course of childhood psychopathology and possible interventions to prevent poor outcome. Methods: The symposium will start off with a presentation about the role of genetic and other familial factors influencing childhood psychopathology, including anxiety, depression, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and behavioural problems. The other presentations will focus on specific disorders or symptoms (i.e. aggression, social problems and ADHD). Findings: All mental problems in childhood show some continuity into adulthood, but there is also variation in course. Conclusions: Interventions should particularly focus on improving long-term outcomes for childhood psychopathology.L6276966442019-05-21
